As we head toward the final curtain of pre-production for The Circus Of Outrageous, it’s time for a little look back at the process. Sometime in the dark cold months at the end of 2015 I dropped by the studio in the pharmaceuticalfactory where my solo album was being mixed and mastered. Absolution : Evolution
What a difference a week makes. Last Friday brought Kuhl together in our Cinderford studio at the edges of The Forest Of Dean. I had managed to re-shape 'Absolution' into the semblance of a lyric. We were a day late, so the song I turned up with was different from the day before. And so much more refined. Absolution : Rough Notes
Absolution this has become a combination of influences and references - principally Johnny Come Down To HiLo with Mack and Snake Island Girls, plus pilgrim, plus anything religious…with references from (and maybe not used) Pied Piper, a Shakespeare line, the Tramp’s Anthology and Funky Drag itself. The song began as another anti-Trump thing - no absolution there, but has now become almost a murder ballad in the spirit of Boy In The Attic/Mack In the end it is a Bawdy. A song
